'Sucker'

A time lapse of the burning process used by Brooklyn-based artist Ryan McCarthy for his piece entitled Sucker. Ditching traditional drawing tools, Ryan drags a lit cigarette lighter across paper to create dark, haunting pieces.

Snapshots

Snapshots, an area for individual photos without an accompanying gallery has been posted under PHOTO|SNAPSHOTS. The Polaroid layout acts as a stack of photos, allowing you to shuffle through or view each shot sequentially.

More Plastics

Back with more Plastics:

Over the past few months I've been working with Future In Plastics by filming and editing their full length performances. Our first stop is at the Annex in NYC, the band performing Cross-Eyed Crystal available under FILM|FILMS.


Next up are shots from a second performance at the Bowery Electric in Brooklyn, NY. The moody lighting and lower stage allowed for these intimate noir-like shots, and can be found under PHOTO|PERFORMANCE.

Future In Plastics

Future In Plastics are a local band who play the New York area, the audience of which I had the pleasant surprise of being in last month. Feeling like I've found a needle in a haystack, I put together an artist profile using footage of the band available on Youtube.

Dreamland

Coney Island's world-famous Astroland shut it's doors last weekend after 46 years of operation. It's future is uncertain, as the property was bought by Thor Equities who have supposedly refused to negotiate with the former owner. Nevertheless, the public enjoyed the rides one last time on Sunday.

Dreamland, which was taken on this final day can be found under PHOTO|COLLECTIONS. The title comes from Kevin Baker's novel 'Dreamland', which takes place in turn-of-the-century Coney Island.

Coma Grey

Compiled from cell phone and miniDV footage, Marilyn Manson's performance of Coma White/Coma Black can be found under FILM|EDITS.

All source footage comes from the many YouTube uploads of the recent Hammerstein Ballroom performance, this rare song combination was captured by fans from all over the venue allowing for an in-depth multi-angle edit.

Evaporate

Evaporate is a feature-length screenplay that I wrote over the past couple of months. While I can't film such a large project any time soon, I did do some work on it over the weekend.

The idea of Take Two is to learn about the profession of film making along with readers. I hope to bring self educators together to collect a diversity of ideas for each subject, which is something that a self-education can benefit from.

Siblings

The Photography Sister site is now available through the main page.

New Site

I've spent the past month making changes and updates to the site. Some of the major changes are as follows:

IMAGES has been updated, and is now a part of ABOUT.
FILM is now split into two sections. One containing finalized films, the other containing various smaller projects. New content has been added.
PIECES is now split into two sections - one containing galleries, the other containing various snapshots. New content has been added.

A sister site consisting only of photography will be online shortly.

Fourth Wall

Fourth Wall is the first gallery added to PHOTO|COLLECTIONS in over a year. After working with cinema for so long, photgraphy seemed limiting. I wanted to try something more submersible with the flat world of photography, and break the fourth wall in each shot.

Fruits

A restless feline and a relentless bass beat.
Fruits is now available under FILM|FILMS.

Atmospheres

A three part project has been added to the FILM|EXPERIMENTS section, entitled Atmospheres. These films were tests in various methods of film-making, such as time manipulation and tracking shots, while capturing a different feel for each piece without the use of dialog. My goal was for each atmosphere to feel other-wordly, or to have a dream like quality.

New Images

Galleries under PIECES are now sized for resolutions 1024 x 768 and up. I never had the time or webspace to do this, so I'm very excited to finally get semi-detailed versions of my work online. Excerpts from images have also been resized.

New Pieces

Six new images are now available under Single Shots in PIECES.

Cythera, Within

Cythera, Within has been added to PHOTO|SNAPSHOTS.

I've always liked the concept of bringing the outside inside, and as such these nature photos were taken in my bedroom.

Repairs

Using BlipTV's embedded player, my films should now be viewable to Mac users. Also, the videos should now be available to those of you who had a problem downloading the files from their old server.

Autopilot

Autopilot is now available under FILM|FILMS. I've always been amazed that no matter how exhausted, inebriated or otherwise removed a person is; when it comes to doing things we're naturally good at - our minds can kick into autopilot and take over for us. I was drinking too heavily to remember filming a lot of this, the drummer in the video was drinking too heavily to stand.

Coryphée

A short film entitled Coryphée has been added to FILM|FILMS. I did not do the animation for this film, only the editing.

Using a victrola and a laser mouse, I made a "video scratcher" and choreographed a 60 second animation into this 3 minute ballet.

Live in Paradise

Today the Dresden Dolls: Live in Paradise comes out on DVD, which I and 4 others did the photography for. My portion of the photos can be seen under Paradise in PHOTOS|PERFORMANCE. More of my work with the Dresden Dolls can be seen at www.dresdendolls.com.

See No Evil

See, Hear, Speak No Evil has been added to PHOTOS under Single Shots.

Cloud One

Cloud One has been added to FILM|FILMS .
If Cloud 9 is referred to as a representation of complete bliss - there has to be something on the opposite end of the spectrum. The film is a minute and a half long, but is more than double the file size of some of my other films. This is to save a detail that I hope isn't missed.

Reflections

A short film entitled Reflect is now available under FILM|FILMS.

Lonesome Moving Pictures

I've just completed work on a small film which documents the work that went into shooting "Alone, but never Lonesome". The film describes the era that the pictures emulate, and the references within.

The video is just short of 6 minutes, and is available under FILM|FILMS.

Dresden Dolls DVD

Last week I finished shooting for the Dresden Dolls' upcoming DVD. I'll be posting the work under the older Dresden Dolls gallery in PHOTO|PERFORMANCE once the DVD is officially released.

Filming New Life

Alone, But Never Lonesome

A lot of research went into these photos in an attempt to capture the voyeuristic nude photography of the 20's and 30's. At the time, this classic art was considered smut and photographers and models had to stay anonymous; this era of underground photography has now become accepted as classic and quite tame by today's standards.

I however appreciate how 'dangerous' these classics were once considered.

Whiplash

Snidely Whiplash has been added to FILM|EXPERIMENTS. The clip is a modern take on the american animation pioneer Jay Ward's creation, the stereotypical villain of the silent movie era.

Harlequin Filmophile

A new movie, Harlequin Coulrophilia has been added to FILM, accompanying the photoshoot of the same name.

Harlequin Coulrophilia took around two hours to shoot, and this video gives a nice behind-the-scenes view at what went into it.

Harlequin Coulrophilia

The other night I fell asleep while sitting in the bath, and for some reason dreamed about clowns.

The pink bubble bath was intended to look like cotton candy, but the bubbles eventually melted and resembled a bloodbath.

There's an interesting transition where the pictures go from innocent, to fun, and then just frightening.

Overthrow
